草榴社区 exceeded its goal of 2,600 donors.

For more than five years, One Big Give has served as a celebration of generosity as students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends come together to support 草榴社区. The 2025 campaign was no exception as donors once again exceeded the university鈥檚 ambitious goal.

This year, organizers set a goal of 2,600 donors; 576 more than last year鈥檚 goal of 2,024. By the end of the day, 2,638 individuals had answered the call, contributing a total of $393,023 to scholarships, campus organizations, academic departments, missions, and athletics programs through donations and matching funds.

鈥淲e are so thankful for the incredible generosity of our 草榴社区 family. Every gift, no matter the size, helps us continue our mission of equipping students to make a difference in Appalachia and beyond,鈥 said Tyler Smith, vice president for philanthropy and alumni engagement. 鈥淲e鈥檙e truly grateful for everyone who joined us to make this amazing achievement possible.鈥

One Big Give launched in 2019 and reached 487 donors. Since then, it has grown in reach and impact, with every dollar raised directly enhancing the student experience.

鈥淲e鈥檝e had an annual give day for several years and each year we try to improve and grow,鈥 shared Courtney Bidwell, director of donor relations, 鈥淭his year, one area I鈥檓 particularly proud of is the incredible growth of our student clubs, honor societies, and student advocate participation because it shows our students are becoming an active part of building philanthropy and generosity here at UC!鈥

Several matching challenges helped energize the day. A $10,000 match supported scholarships and workship programs, and a $2,500 match was unlocked during a lunchtime 鈥減ower hour.鈥 Other matches included a $570 match for academic departments and a $50 match for Campus Ministries and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Two giving records were set this year; 2025 marked the highest amount ever raised on One Big Give for both athletics and student organizations.

The event also underscored the wide reach of 草榴社区鈥 impact. Thirty percent of all donations came from friends of the university. Parents and undergraduate alumni followed closely behind, each contributing 16 percent of total gifts. Notably, 224 faculty and staff members gave, and every class year since 1965 was represented.

Donor support continues to drive 草榴社区鈥 mission of providing a quality, affordable education for students from all backgrounds. Plans are already underway for an even greater impact in 2026.
